Clubs

The PHS Book Club is intended to help young readers to develop a passion for reading and books. 

The group meets the third Thursday of each month in the library. 

Emily Briano is the faculty sponsor. 

BSU is for science lovers who compete in Science Bowl, Southern Appalachian Science and the Engineering Fair. It meets during PAWS in room 131.

Robin Jarman and Beth Mooney are the faculty sponsors.

Meets on Wednesdays 3:45 to 4:45, 

Donald Beardsley is the sponsor.

DECA is an organization that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management. Each year students have the opportunity to compete at three different levels. They will complete a test relating to a particular event and participate in role-playing at the competition. Students learn professional development, social skills, and 21st-century skills.

DECA meets during PAWS time in rooms 146, 122, and 144.

FCA meets during PAWS on Thursday in Room 133. Everyone is welcome to attend.

This is the club associated with the Dietetics and Nutrition and the Human and Social Sciences pathways. It meets during PAWS and Tuesdays at 3:45 PM in room 140.

Dr. Mary Berry is the faculty advisor.

HOSA is a student led organization whose purpose is to allow students to develop various skill competencies through the health science education program. Our mission is to enhance the delivery of compassionate, quality health care by providing opportunities for knowledge, skill and leadership development of all health science education students, therefore, helping the student meet the needs of the health care community. The National Art Honor Society inspires students to develop their skills as artists and leaders while promoting visual arts at Karns High School.

Participation is open to students who have taken or are currently enrolled in an art class. The group meets after school on Mondays in Room 164.

Kevin Gentry and Alexandra Boyum serve as the faculty sponsors.

The National Honor Society is a service and leadership organization made up of academically high-performing junior and senior students. Students are invited for membership in the spring of their sophomore year based on their unweighted GPA. NHS meets on the last Tuesday of the month in Room 128 at 8am and 3:30pm. Meetings are mandatory but students choose which meeting is more suitable to their schedules.

Members must maintain an unweighted GPA of 3.5 or higher, attend meetings regularly, and actively participate in club and individual service opportunities. 10th-12th grade students who meet the GPA requirement from the previous school year may obtain an application for membership from the sponsors at the beginning of the fall semester

TSA is a student-led organization for middle and high school students interested in technology, engineering, and STEM fields.. TSA clubs provide hands-on experience through competitive events, leadership training, and community service, aiming to develop personal development, technical skills, and future career opportunities for its members.
